Hundreds of thousands of people left Dhaka on motorbikes, cars, trains and planes to return home on Thursday as highways saw huge crowds due to debris. The streets of Dhaka seemed deserted on Thursday, but many people were seen doing last-minute shopping at shops and kitchen markets. People have also complained that city buses are ferrying passengers to Dhaka. On the other hand, motorcyclists had the opportunity to cross the Padma Bridge on Thursday for the first time since last year, and long queues were seen at the financial offices on the Mawa side. All Dhaka buses saw few passengers on Thursday, although Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Tangail routes were crowded. The National Lunar New Year Committee will meet on Friday to decide the date of Eid. Religious Affairs Minister Md Faridul Haque Khan will lead the meeting at 6:45 pm (after Maghrib) at the Islamic Foundation Baitul Mukarram Hall. The authorities have provided space for about 35,000 worshipers (men and women) in the main Eid Jamaat which will be held at the National Eidgah near the Supreme Court. The first Jamat will be at 8:30 am.
